Growing Peppers Indoors – Guidelines & Tips
Growing peppers indoors is a great way to enjoy fresh peppers year round without having to spend a lot of money on store-bought produce. There are a few guidelines to keep in mind when growing peppers indoors, and these tips will help ensure you have a successful harvest.
Selecting the Right Pepper Plant
When selecting the right pepper plant to grow indoors, you’ll want to consider the type of pepper you’ll be growing. There are many different varieties of peppers, so it’s important to choose one that will thrive in your indoor environment. Hotter peppers generally do better indoors than milder varieties due to their need for higher temperatures.
Additionally, you’ll want to select a plant that is specifically designed for indoor growth. There are many varieties of peppers that are bred for use in indoor environments. Look for those with shorter internodes, as these plants will take up less space.
Providing Adequate Lighting

Fertilizing & Watering
Pepper plants need a regular supply of fertilizer in order to reach their full growth potential. There are many commercially available fertilizers that will work for pepper plants. When using a fertilizer, make sure to follow the directions on the packaging for proper application and dosage.
In addition to fertilizing, pepper plants also need to be watered regularly. Make sure to check the soil every few days to check the moisture levels. If the soil is dry, add water until it is moist but not overly saturated. Too much water can lead to root rot, so make sure to not overwater.
Harvesting & Storing
When the peppers are fully developed, they can then be picked from the plants. You’ll want to use scissors or shears to avoid damaging the plant. Store the harvested peppers in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or container to keep them fresh.
